This book intends to create a standard of practice for spiritual care. It helps us to know how to start, where to focus, how to respond, and how to communicate our spiritual care. It focuses on creating a standard of care rather than accumu­lating knowledge on conditions or situations that can change from case to case. It focuses on who we are for people more than what we do for them.

I wrote an article for the Journal of Pastoral Care in 1980 titled “Covenants with God”. The article was intended as a part of a curriculum but also as a personal help handbook for those wanting to grow spiritually. It was helpful to my students and seemed to be helpful to those who read the article.
